Church Tribute 1 Inter Didsbury 4
Match Report - Provided by Mark Moody
Our 1st game of the new season promised to be a real test of all the effort and hard work that went into our pre-season preparation and it seems to have paid off!
1st Half.
Church Tribute were riding high coming into the game with a victory from last week and as it was our 1st game due to the late start it was a test of our composure. As with most games we were slow out of the blocks and started a bit shaky, this was mainly down to people getting used to their positions and remembering what was expected of them.
Church had a fair share of the ball and tested the defence early on which held firm, however a rash challenge from Mark Moody just outside the box gave Church a free kick which was expertly dispatched by their key man, 1-0. This seemed to give Didsbury the shake that was needed and we started to gain some composure and play the ball around better and more direct.
Finally after some play down the right hand side following some good link up between Mark Moody and Will Newton the ball was played forward to Paul Mackay and with the keeper committed an excellent lob saw the scores levelled, 1-1.
2nd Half
Inter came out of the blocks much better than the 1st half and following some quick link up between Mark and Will again down the right, Will whipped a delightful ball across the box which was met with a bullet of a header at the back stick by Chris Fawcett, unfortunately this blazed over the bar. None the less this only helped to boost us and seemed to really have knocked the Church.
We started to boss the game much more and started to gel as a team; unfortunately a clash with Church Tributes striker left Scott our new keeper with a two broken fingers and had to be subbed with Gareth Brown stepping into the breach.
The fitness that Inter have gained due to a lengthy pre season really started to show and we were by far the fitter team. Our work rate was rewarded with another goal, a long ball over the top from Chris Fawcett was latched onto by Paul Mackay and ended up in the back of the net, 2-1.
Following a corner Church managed to start a counter attack however this was snubbed with a cynical challenge on the half way line by Mark earning a yellow in the process. With the defence holding firm, the midfield gelling well and following a sub of Chris Snow for Alex Mather we were looking a far better team than the opposition and Gareth made some vital saves.
Cue Navid Karagh with one of his twisting runs from the midfield finished off with a 25 yard screamer we were 3-1 up.
Paul Mackay was subbed for Kyle Patel. The half was finished with a similar goal again from Navid and leaving us with a 4-1 win.
We wont mention the one on one that Kyle had in the closing minutes of the game to make it 5-1 which he somehow managed to blaze over…
In summary it was a great performance and just what was needed for the 1st game. Our fitness certainly played a part in the victory and with a strong subs bench and players still to return it promises to be a very competitive season hopefully resulting in some silverware!
