1st Half

After weathering the early storm, Inter started to show signs of their own pressure. Patient on the floor football was proving successful for the home team. After a few half chances by Kane, Alex and Navid, Inter did strike blood first. After superb play from the Inter defence to the midfield, Mackay threaded a superb ball through, that was missed by Kane but just over his shoulder was the lightning figure of Will Halsall to race through and knock the ball past the advancing keeper, 1-0.

This was not against the run of play and Inter did keep up the pressure. However the next goal was to arrive for the visitors. After soaking up some pressure from Montgomery they were finally level through a deflected goal which broke out from a corner, 1-1.

This was followed by another quick blow for the Inter players who up until now, were working superbly hard as individuals but more importantly as a team. The ball not getting cleared allowed the striker to nod the ball past the outstretched Frontczak and into the side netting, 1-2.

The game swung from end to end with Inter mainly relying on the counter attack and the next main talking point came just before the half time whistle. After losing the ball in the middle of the field Navid chased down the ball towards the poor unaware Montgomery striker and dan Cochlin. His two-footed lunge wiped the two of them out and incensed the visitors players. A booking was received and the teams went in with the scoreline untouched from 1-2.

2nd Half

It was a very even game and the next goal was going to be very important and it came for the title chasers. Super play down the right produced a great cross and ended with their #11 looping a superb header over Colin in goal, 1-3.

If Montgomery thought they had put daylight between us then they were very much mistaken. As any of Inters oppositions will tell you this is one team that doesnt give up. Superb linkup play between Navid, Alex, Rico put Kane through one-on-one with the goalkeeper only for him to two his shot past the near post, with Mackay and Halsall lurking.

The next chance to equalise wasn't that far away and this time it did result in a goal. a superb Navid pass released Kane down the right wing only to be beaten to the ball by the keeper. With excellent pressure by Kane, the goalkeeper sent a terrible clearance which fell straight to the feet of Mackay. Taking one touch onto his left and 30 yards out he let fly with a sweetly hit speculative shot, that looked to go over before hitting the underside of the bar at the top left corner and dropping into the net of the unguarded goal, for probably the goal of the season nevermind the game, 2-3.

Inter should have been level from the Montgomery kick off. Robbed of possession Inter mounted an attack down the right which saw kane send in a superb low ball beating the keeper from a yard out, only for Alex and Will at the back post and on top of the under pressure defender, to see the ball unbelieveably cleared by the defender. 9 times out of ten, the defender would have turned it in.

This was probably the turning point, as Montgomery restored their two goal advantage from a corner kick. The Inter boys were caught ball watching as the big defender had the simplest of tasks, drilling the ball through a cluster of bodies as the ball dropped to him, 2-4.

A superb effort from the opposition produced a great save by the Inter keeper in goal, stretching out fully to his left to double punch the effort around the post for a corner.

Despite nearly wiping out a previous two-goal lead you could sense ther Inter players felt that time and luck was running out for them. The game became stretched and Montgomery started to get a grip on the game. A superb save to his left hand side by Colin really kept the Inter hopes alive.

The game was wrapped up before the end and some would say, that the margin didnt represent the flow of the game but it did come in the 85 minute. A clean strike saw off any chances of an Inter fight back to make the final score 2-5.

Post Match Report
Post Match Report

An amazing team effort and display on Sunday. After a very bright start and for once we actually scored the first goal. We were outplayed in spells by a very good team, but we competed to the end and never gave up. If we had taken some of our chances in the second half we could have made the top of the league team really chase the game.

We did try to get the ball down and play football which was encouraging. For about three of our goals a number of our players were caught ball watching rather than being within a yard of the opposition and snuffing out the danger. This is something that we have to work on.

If we play like this in every game then we will find our recent run of results change in our favour.
